Initially I thought starting a business was simply just collecting jobs online through social media, but there's a lot I've had to set up, so that the business can be a standard, professional entity ๐.
First off, I knew I needed my own website, how would I explain that I built websites for clients if I don't even have one ๐. I tried buying a domain name with my Naira card at the time, but since it was banned, I had to hop from one frustrating fintech app to the other trying to get my KYC done for a virtual usd card, until grey came through. Haew ๐ซ
So I bought https://bkyd.studio and built a website for @bkydstudios.
After that, I needed a professional email.
Initially, I wanted to skip this and go for a simple WhatsApp chat link instead, since that's our preferred app for communication, but I didn't want to look like an amateur ๐คจ so I got a domain email from Google Workspace, and I won't lie it's worth it.
For most of my admin work, I've been using some free tools but when I needed to have a contract signed with a client, I subscribed to DocuSign for their digital signatures. This tool actually gave me some peace of mind, as my previous jobs were closed on proposals without any signatures, just good faith ๐ .
Now I sign all my contracts, so that they are legally binding.

There was even a design portfolio I needed to build with Webflow, God such an unfriendly software to broke people ๐ญ. Their free plan takes away your freedom, they limit the number of pages you can create and prevent you from transferring the website to your client.
Omoh I didn't plan for that bill sha, but the show must go on ๐โ
So I had to upgrade the account to a Workspace plan to finish up the job. Although Webflow is quite pricey compared to traditional hosting, my experience working with it was wonderful. I will use more of it for client marketing websites, because of the level of creativity it enables.

Lastly I registered the business with the government at CAC so that I can get a corporate bank account. This is still underway sha
// cac certificate
All these took me a while though, and most of my delays were from card issues, but I'm happy I've finally laid this foundation. From here on operations can scale smoothly ๐.
And this is just the setup, omoh.
